We support A/L students until they win their struggle – Dr. Asanka Wickremesinghe

They would continue their support to students who are being subjected to injustice due to the ‘Z’ score issue until they win their rights say representatives of the Alliance of Intellectuals and Organizations Against Private Medical Colleges. This was said when they visited students who are engaged in a ‘Sathyagraha’ to protest against the unfair issue of A/L results of the 2011 examination which the students claim has victimized them. The students are engaged in a ‘Sathyagraha’ for 13 days.

The convener of the organization Dr. Asanga Wickremesinghe said he and Dr. Jayanthe Bandara representing the Alliance of Intellectuals and Organizations Against Private Medical Colleges visited the students who are engaged in the ‘Sathyagraha’ at Kalawana town.

He said, “The students have continued the ‘Sathyagraha’ for 13 days. We pledge to give full support of our organization to students who have been subjected to injustice due to the wrong policy of the government. We promised to support the struggle of students to get admittance to universities for all those who got qualified at both issues of results and to make university teachers and other intellectuals aware of their struggle.”

He said if the government really wants to resolve the issue they could take over ‘degree shops’ like the one at Malabe and find room to take in more students to universities. He said, “Students and their parents are making a great sacrifice by continuing the ‘Sathyagraha’ for 13 days. We told them that we could be a strength for them. Several students are indisposed due to rain and dust. We were able to give them medical assistance.”

He said, “We. As the Alliance of Intellectuals and Organizations Against Private Medical Colleges, promised to give them all the support they need. We also promised them that we would struggle against the indiscreet educational policy of the government and its attempt to establish private universities.”
